Syllabus

Description:
  • You may upload a syllabus file and add it to the Syllabus tool or create the syllabus within Blackboard following the different template options set up in the Syllabus tool. Each section can be added more than once.
Who can do what?
  • Designers can create and manage syllabus items.
  • Instructors can create and manage syllabus items.
  • Students can view syllabus.
Tip:

The Course Information and Instructor Information sections are default items in
the syllabus. The information contained in these two sections are populated with
system generated information.

How To's:

How to Upload a Syllabus File
  1. The designer may choose to upload a syllabus file into the Syllabus tool rather than using the Blackboard Built-in Syllabus option.
  2. Click on the Syllabus link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
  3. Select the Use File radio button.
  4. Click on the Browse button to access the syllabus file you want to add.
  5. The designer can import a syllabus created
    in any file format including:
     
    • Word files in the .doc format
    • Notepad files in the .txt format
    • HTML files in .html or .htm format
    • Excel files in the .xls format
    • Adobe Acrobat files in .pdf format
 
How to Use the Built-in Syllabus

 

  1. Click on the Syllabus link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
  2. Select the Use built-in syllabus radio button, if it is not automatically selected.
  3. The designer can decide which sections to add to the syllabus in the course. The different sections are:
     
    • Course Information
    • Instructor Information
    • Course Goals
    • Policies
    • Textbook
    • Course Requirements
    • Lesson
    • Custom
       
  4. Select the section type you would like to add from Add Syllabus Item drop-down menu.
  5. Fill in the corresponding text boxes with the necessary information.
  6. You may use HTML creator if offered by clicking on the Use HTML check box only if you are pasting HTML code in the text
  7. Click on the Save button.

Moving the Order of the Sections in the Syllabus:
 

  1. Click on the check box to the left of the section you want to move. A tick appears in the check box.
  2. Click on the move icon at the position you want to move the section to.
  3. The screen refreshes and the section is moved to its new position.

Hiding/Deleting a Section in the Syllabus
 

  1. Click on the ActionLink of the section that you want to delete/hide.
  2. Select delete/hide
