Media Librarymedia library

Description:
  • The Media Library tool enables a designer to create collections of pictures, video files,
    audio files and glossary entries.
  • A media library can be added within Learning Modules, on the Course Content Home page or in a Folder.
  • The glossary entry definitions in the Media Library can be hyperlinked to terms found inside the html content files. This enables the student to click on a linked entry and get a definition instantly.
  • You may create separate collections for video files, audio files, images and glossary items.
  • You may also have a collection that integrates any or all of these file types.
Who can do what?
  • Designers can create and edit media library collections/entries.
  • Instructors can edit media library collections/entries.
  • Students can view media library collections/entries.

How to Create a Collection
Creating a Collection
  • Click on the Media Library link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
  • Click on the Create Collection button in the Media Library screen.
  • Type in the title of your collection in the Title text box.
  • Type in a description of the collection in the Description text box.
  • Note: You can use the HTML Creator to type in your description  by selecting the HTML Creator On radio button. Select the Use HTML check box if you have used HTML code in the title and description text boxes.
  • Click on the Show Item radio button to make this collection visible to students.
    Or
    Click on the Hide Item radio button to hide this collection from students.
  • Type in the keywords that students might search for in the Keywords text box.
  • Click on the Save button. The Media Library screen refreshes adding the collection.

Previewing a Collection

  • The designer may access a media library collection to preview the items in the collection.
  • Click on the Media Library link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
  • The Media Library screen displays.
  • Click on the action link to the right of the collection you would like to preview.
  • Select the Preview option from the drop-down menu.

Deleting a Collection

  • A designer may delete a collection that has been previously added.
  • Click on the Media Library link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
  • Click on the action link to the right of the collection you would like to delete.
  • Select the Delete option from the drop-down menu.
  • Click on the OK button.

Editing a Collection

  • The designer may edit an existing Media Library collection.
  • Click on the Media Library link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
  • Click on the action link to the right of the collection you would like to edit.
  • Select the Edit Properties option from the drop-down menu.
  • Edit any of the items in the Edit Collection Properties screen.
  • Click on the Save button.

How to Add an Entry
  1. Creating an Entry
    • The designer can add entries to a media library collection.
    • Click on the Media Library link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
    • Click on the title of the collection you would like to add entries to.
    • Click on the Create Entry button.
    • Type in the title of the entry in the Title text box.
    • Type in the description for the entry in the Description text box. Note: You can use the HTML Creator to type in your description if required by selecting the HTML Creator On radio button.
    • Click on the Browse button found to the right of the File text box.The Get Files screen opens.
    • Click on the My Computer icon. The My Computer screen displays.
    • Navigate on your computer to the file that you would like to upload.
    • Click on the Open button. The selected file is added into the Create Entry.
    • Type in the keywords you require for this entry in the Keywords text box.
    • Select the collection you would like to include this entry in.  An entry can be included into more than one collection.

    Adding Existing Entries

    • The Add Existing Entries option enables a designer to place an existing entry into a particular collection.
    • Click on the Media Library link from the left hand Course Tools menu.
    • Click on the title of the collection you would like to add entries to.
    • Click on the Add Existing Entries button. The View All Entries screen displays.
    • Select the entry you would like to add to the collection by clicking on the check box to the left of the entry title.
    • Select the Add to collection drop-down menu.
    • Select a collection to link the item to from the drop-down menu.
    • Click on the green arrow to the right of the Add to collection drop-down menu.
    • The screen refreshes adding the entry to the collection.
