Learning Modules

Description:
  • A Learning Module enables to create a path for students to work through that can contain the following:
    • Content files (e.g. Html, PDF, Word ,text and Flash files)
    • Assessments (Quizzes, Self-Test, Surveys)
    • Assignments
    • Media Library Collections (Images, glossary, video or audio files)
    • Web Links (links to relevant websites)
    • Chat rooms to facilitate live communication
    • Discussion Topics to facilitate asynchronous communication
Who can do what?
  • Designers can create and edit Learning Modules.
  • Instructors can edit Learning Modules descriptions and set selective release criteria.
  • Students can view Learning Modules.
Tip:
  • Note: You may edit the Leaning Module Global Action Menu by clicking on the Learning Module link -->Action Menu Settings Or you may edit the Action Menu of each Learning Module Document by clicking on the ActionLink -->Edit Item Action Menu

How to Create a Learning Module

Creating a Learning Module

  1. The Learning Module tool needs to be added in the course menu. From the tool, click on 'Create Learning Module.' Type in the name of the Learning Module, description, and table of contents properties. Click on Save.
  2. Browsing and Adding a File
    1. Click on the Learning Module link in the Learning Module tool.
    2. Click on the Add File button. A drop-down menu appears.
    3. Select the Browse for Files option from the drop-down menu. The Get Files
      window opens.
    4. Navigate to the area where you want to select a file from.
    5. Select the check box to the left of the file you would like to add.
    6. Click on the OK button. The file is added and the module displays as seen in
      OR
    7. Click on Creating a File.
    8. Type in the title of the file in the Title text box.
    9. Select the HTML Creator On radio button to load the HTML Creator.
    10. Create your file using the HTML Creator.
    11. Type in the file name in the File name text box.
  3. Adding a Content Link

You can add a number of different links in a Learning Module. These include
Assessments, Assignments, Chat, Discussions, Media Library Collection, SCORM Module and Web Links.

  1. Click on the Learning Module link in the Learning Module tool.
  2. Click on the Add Content Link button. A drop-down menu appears.
  3. Select the tool and from there select the file(s) you would like to add.
     
  4. Action Menu Settings
    Specific action menu settings can be set for the whole Learning Module or for a specific item in the Learning Module.

    If you set to display the Printable View, Bookmarks or Notes for the whole Learning Module these tools will appear in the action menu for every
    page/assessment/discussion/chat/media library collection etc in the module.
     
    1. Click on the Learning Modules link from the Course Tools menu.
    2. Select the action link to the right of the Learning Module you would like to edit settings for.
    3. Select the Edit Action Menu option from the drop-down menu.
    4. In the Action Menu Settings screen you may turn the action menu on or off and
      add specific action menu links to different items.
    5. Select the On radio button to the right of Create Printable View beneath the Action Menu Tools heading if you want students to be able to create
      printable views, for example, of content within the Learning Module.
      Or
      Select the Off radio button to the right of Create Printable View, for example, if you do not want students to be able to create printable views of content within the Learning Module.
    6. You may also add specific links to the Action Menu by clicking on the green crosses.

 
How to Edit a Learning Module
  1. Editing a Learning Module
    1. Once a Learning Module has been added to the course the designer may access it and edit items in the Learning Module if required.
    2. Click on the Learning Modules link from the Course Tools menu.
    3. Click on the action link to the right of the Learning Module you would like to edit. A drop-down menu appears.
    4. Select the Edit Properties option from the drop-down menu. The Edit Learning Module Properties screen displays.
    5. Edit the item(s) you require in the Edit Learning Module Properties screen.
    6. Click on the Save button. The Learning Module screen displays with the  changes saved.
